Re: Cross Breed

I worked on developing this further today. I simplified the queen by eliminating both color sensors, and instead made the males emit S3/S4 directly. The threshold is low enough that the males must touch their secrocyte to the pink cell, or it won't trigger. This also prohibits female-female fertiliz...

Re: Kite Template Challenge

Using the starting substrate, a few thousand simulated hours of evolution at modest mutation rate (0.010 - 0.020) produced a winner that can maintain ~240 cells--so goal 2 is pretty easy after all :-) Maybe 300-400 not so much?

Cross Breed

I have been obsessed with this idea since yesterday, and actually managed to pull it off. Two mutually dependent organisms (red and blue), each with males and females, which are co-dependent on cross-breeding. Four initial cells (which results in 2 males and 2 females of each color): wapcaplet-cross...

Re: Queen needs Drones

Have you tried seeking red without avoiding green? That works much better, thanks! With this and a couple other optimizations, I got to 30 on the harder substrate, 50 on the easy one. Mine uses one green-eater that sends out red-seekers. The green-eater dies long before all green is eaten, so makin...

Kite Template Challenge

We have so many difficult challenges! Here is one that's meant to be easy(ish) and fun. Substrate: wapcaplet-challenge-kite-template.substrate kite-template.png On this substrate are some very basic "kite" or "diamond" smart swimmers. They can maintain a population of 60 to 80 pretty well, but rarel...

Centipedes

These guys are fun to play around with: wapcaplet-centipedes.substrate centipedes-1.png centipedes-2.png Their design was inspired by Bwisialo's smart serpent, but I was looking for something a little more centipede-like. The substrate has a few different species with slight tweaks to various settin...

Re: Queen needs Drones

Wow. I've been working on this one a lot today. When I started, I thought "OK, I'm ready for this". Yeah, not so much! Best I can do so far is about 8, if one or two second-generation drones make it to the red cells. "Avoid green cells and seek red cells" behavior gets them there as long as ...

Re: Honey, plus bees

Are its mechanics significantly different than the other models(,,,)? Not really; it's pretty basic. I guess what's new is me figuring out how to design it all from scratch! :D Of course I was influenced and inspired by other creations that have been posted here. The two-split "kite" swimmer model ...

Re: Honey, plus bees

My bees now have their nutrient lipocyte in the front, and I've reconfigured the honey into a kind of honeycomb (white gluocytes on one side, gold honey/eggs on the other). This works quite well: wapcaplet-honeycomb-1-cell.substrate honeycomb.png A bee in the lower left is making new honeycomb, and ...

Very nice living painting :-) I especially like the buoycyte ornaments.
