Re: Cell wall

I would also like to have more rigid cells but the problem is more about programming. Solving more rigid structures in real time requires smaller time steps and it slows down the simulation. Alternatively I could switch to some implicit method but that will add lots of complexity. I'm considering lo...

Re: coding details

Hi, - What do you mean by "physics engine"? I feel like i've got this question a few times before. I treat the cell dynamics using basic mechanics, does that mean i use a physics engine? Only cell d.o.f are x,y, angle so it is pretty simple :P, just some pairwise (angle dependent) potentials + dissi...

Re: LCD Display

Lipocytes block signal substances, kind of like glial cells in the body. I figure that is what you do with the connecting neurocytes?

Wow, really impressive work! Creative use of the neurocytes in the corners, wouldn't lipocytes work though?

2018 Nobel prize in chemistry

Congratulations to Frances H. Arnold for her Nobel prize in chemistry! Arnold developed a method for using directed evolution to modify enzymes for our needs. The procedure is very similar to the solution to challenge "Breeding II" so I will describe in some details what she and did in her seminal w...

Re: 2018 Nobel prize in physics

No, as far as I know the literature prize was also in the will of Alfred Nobel and is a legitimate Nobel prize.

Re: 2018 Nobel prize in physics

At their website, the literature and economic prizes were there. - indeed. However, the "Nobel prize in economics" is not a Nobel prize and I think calling it such is both deceiving people and is unfair to Alfred Nobel. It was invented by the Swedish central bank "in the memory of Nobel" but in pra...

Re: 2018 Nobel prize in physics

There's no nobel prize in literature or economic sciences, but if the medicine or peace prizes are cell lab related i'll mention them too :).
