MAJOR BUG: Substrate crashes if app is inactive for a while.

Post by fungus3 » Wed Feb 28, 2018 5:42 pm

Whenever I have a substrate open, and open another app, the substrate crashes after a few minutes, erasing ALL of my evolution progress! :rage:

I have that, too, with all kinds of app if I have them in the background too long they need to restart. I recommend saving your substrate. Don't think this is a CL related issue.

Yea, sounds like android is just closing down apps that are in the background to save memory. This is how android is intended to work. CL doesn't run the simulation when it is in the background anyways so there is no point in keeping unsaved progress in the background.

When you say "substrate crashes" do you mean an actual crash (with an error message/bad behaviour of some sort), or just that it was shutdown?

This is just a casual Android phone, clearing up its RAM..

Happens to me all the time when I got more apps running with sime rather big ones. "It's not a bug, it's a feature."

It IS a major bug! I never EVER had that issue with v74!

It has to be that, or Petter intentionally prevented smart organisms from evolving naturally.

The way you have explained it, it does indeed not seem to be a bug, but as Alast explained: the intended behavior. And just to clarify, the app doesn't run when in the background anyways.

That doesn't mean wipe 300k+ hours of sentience evolution progress, especially if the organisms just developed the correct stereocytes and matching programmed behaviors. :x
