Geometric structures -- video and images

Post your creations here. It can be either a cool genome or an interesting ecosystem. Indicate if you designed it yourself or if it was created through evolution, or both :). File, picture, or video is required.

Geometric structures -- video and images

Post by bwisialo » Tue Feb 02, 2016 11:02 pm

A while back, I unsuccesfully tried to create structured geometric / fractal-like patterns but did not get far before giving up. I was pleasantly surprised to discover ways to create patterns like the one in the video (genome below). I wouldn't have thought it was possible to create this sort of structure, but the wonders of Cell Lab never cease! :) The size of the structure is more than the game's resolution (and my video capture app) can handle.

Notice the first iteration of the pattern at 25 seconds ;)

If you want to start from scratch, it's a very easy genome to create.

Mode 1: Lipocyte, split mass 0.77, split angle 45, splits into child modes 2, 2
Mode 2: Photocyte, split mass 2.92, split angle 90, splits into child modes 1, 1

both:
max adhesion strength
max nutrient priority

You'll have to create a substrate with the cell limit where you want the genome to stop. You'll have to adjust viscosity: eg, start low, then none, then very low.

 did you notice the Svastika in the center at second 38?

It's beautiful creating such patterns, isn't it? Reminds me of my Mandala genome. Looks more abstract though :)

I didn't notice... because I am amazed by what is possible to be done using all the stuff we can. We can have pretty much anything, all by using cells. Cell lab is such a great game... :D

No, I hadn't noticed it. But now that you've pointed it out, it's hard to miss.

There are many, many ways to produce variations on the "square-within-square" pattern. The images aren't great: image resolution from the game makes it difficult to get small, clear images of gigantic cell structures.

Here is the 1024-cell lattice in the original video:

You can replicate it four-fold and get this 4096-cell lattice

Or you can repeat additional iterations of the development pattern to get this 4096-cell lattice. Notice, this has same global shape as first lattice -- like a # symbol. If they initially look identical, look closer ;)

Here are more "square-within-square" variations. All have 4096 cells:

I see you found a new passion on Cell Lab ;)

All look great.

It seems that, if you look, there's always something new to find ;)
