Atlas

Post by JPrescott » Sat Jul 22, 2017 9:07 am

Atlas moths rely on the energy they stored as a caterpillar. Trying to recreate this, I ended up with a child that produces 2 parents.

The lipocyte stores as much energy as it can

The lipocyte then splits into a male and a female

Fertilization occurs, unfortunately the female doesn't survive long
I wish I could make the male and female survive longer. They maintain a low population for a long time. When they are numerous enough, they can cross-fertilize. So, mixing genes I guess.

Cool! Even better than "standard" sexual reproduction. I think you should reduce caterpillar`s stereocyte split mass a bit, this`ll speed up reproduction.
I`m Russian so there may be typos.

Done! :D I also angled the 'parents' away from each other so they can reproduce with others (often with limited success).

Started this substrate with four individuals just to be safe.

Thats really cool! :D , the female swimmers lose its head and molts into the new Atlas swimmer carrying both gender. I taught it will have the same problem from my sexually reproducing smart serpents, but it turns out really well.

The population of the Atlas is quite high though, because every female will molt into one of them, and males only chase females not food. But this problem is solved by making the Atlas produce both genders from the same egg (still wonder on making a gender randomizer though ;) ). Good job overall!
