Post your creations here. It can be either a cool genome or an interesting ecosystem. Indicate if you designed it yourself or if it was created through evolution, or both :). File, picture, or video is required.

'Resourceful' Organism

Post by H4yw1r3 » Wed Sep 05, 2018 12:30 pm

A week ago, I got an idea of making an organism capable of transforming its 'organs' to consume/gain nutrients after the current food source depleted. So far I only have a prototype that I've worked on for 5 days and it's working decently in my opinion.

So, this organism is set to hatch as a Macrophage in default. If food is detected, it'll proceed on looking for food and consuming it to keep itself alive. Otherwise, it'll immediately pop-out its light-capturing module which causes to make the whole organism 'dumb'. It will turn into a PhotoSentient Prey. Yes, it does spin in circles but it stays in its certain loop path so I just considered it as 'stationary'.

In PhotoSentient Mode, it will continue to expose the Photocytes as long as the light exists. It abuses it until the user manually turns it off in the settings. It may stay locked in PhotoSentient Mode unless the light disappears from the substrate.

If the organism is mixed with another type of organism (like a prey, for example), it will metamorph into a Scavenger-type organism. It'll use Devourocytes to eat slow-moving cells. Since its design is too sensitive for hasty and fast pursuits, it can only devour slow organisms of any size. After the stimulus(Multi-colored cells) are gone, it'll revert back to its original Macrophage form.

Flaws:
- Bad design, in terms of the diversity of the design among the 3 forms it possess.
- Unprotected Body in Scavenger form, making it vulnerable to simple Predators.
- Self-destruction feature is still not applied due to frequent changes in number of connections.
- A mechanism in PhotoSentient form is missing, which limits it from turning into a Scavenger directly from PhotoSentient form.
- Reproduction is still very risky with the organism due to nutrient balance problems. (Edited)
- Steering is a huge problem due to it becoming a detattachable module on the back of the organism. (Edited)

EDIT:
Fixes:
- Minor improvements to steering
- Wrong split modes corrected.

I thought of something like this a while back, but couldn't quite manage to make it detect light and my didn't transform into a Predator.

Now with tools like light detection and Max Connections it can be done quite well!

It'll actually take me more modes to make it's steering better and have a more decent layout. I'll apply the missing mechanisms soon after.

Tell me guys if I have to revise something. It's currently a work in progress and I think I released the creation too early.

Not bad. Can you give me a pic?

Here are the pictures in each stages.

-Scavenger Form
-Macrophage From
-PhotoSentient Form

Currently, I'm still fixing its turning mechanism.

Nice design with replacable head and tail for different functions, but this limits the model since the sensors must be at the center, ultimately makes steering difficult.

Apart from the steering, I fixed the bugs on the stemocyte signal,
(I call the 3 modes Dev, Phago and Photo XP)

Now phago mode can turn to either Dev or Photo mode,
Dev mode can return to phago when S2<0
Photo mode can return to phago when S1<0
