Here anything Cell Lab related that doesn't fit into the other topics can be discussed.

Petter, help!

Post by TygrCZ » Wed Dec 09, 2015 6:41 pm

As Alast said, we need something to defend the forums of bots. ;)
First, sorry for my foul language, but what other expression than "WHAT THE ACTUAL F*CK DID JUST HAPPEN?!?!" would you use? :o
The forums just got flooded, and we, standart forum members, can't do anything with it. :(
So, yet again;
Petter, please help us. :)

I think it wouldn't be a crazy decision to give some admin permissions to the most reliable members of this forum
just to give some examples, I'm sure the next members won't do anything wrong with those permissions

we're quite active to take out those bots, however this is your decision, Petter
they don't come very often anyway

Hi,
Yea, this is pretty sad. I removed the posts and tried to change permissions for new users and min time between posts. I added the 4 users with most posts as moderators as suggested. Let me know if you don't want to be moderator or if you want to split the sub-forums somehow?

Please just remove spam from bots, text from humans is always welcome (even if you find it annoying/you disagree/you find it offensive) unless it violates the posted rules (by a lot). It's better to report it if it's not clearly spam and we can make a decision.

Hopefully we can keep up removing posts and they will get tired of posting, but I am afraid that they have now found our forum and it will not stop until I shut it down/figure out how to make a captcha. Please remove the users, not just the posts. Never click any links in signatures (even to figure out if it is spam) because that likely encourages them.

Cheers,
Petter

I hope they'll go now, since everyone noticed it was useless, we're smart enough to just ignore them, but still really annoying, haven't seen new posts from them
I personally don't like the captcha idea, but if they become to insisting, I guess that's the easier decision

Yeah, well, I am pretty sure the bots will come back. Because prograsa don't care. They will just run their script. I think captchas manual approval of new users will ultimately be the only way if this keeps coming.

But with us being mods and living in different time zones we should also have a solid first defense line up against this spam. Although I am sad it had to come to thos. Yet I am not overly surprised...

Me too, but I think we really need to make the anti-bot system. Let's just hope they'll stop. ;)

It's an expression for "I don't think that will happen anytime soon"
