Post by Alast » Sun Apr 17, 2016 7:01 pm

Description: Same substrate as the updated Scarce Friction challenge but no nitrates ;)

Substrate: https://www.dropbox.com/s/ix9g03fyn7a3k ... trate?dl=0

Objective (very difficult): Make it to 200 cells
Objective (nisanely difficult): Make it to 500 cells
Objective (well.. good luck): Make it to 800 cells

Max Cells inserted: 5

Cell Type allowed: all

Hm, after I maxed out Scarce Friction I got 850 right away without nitrates. So I thought 800 should be a good motivation ;)

A version with nitrates but with lower concentration could be good, given the max out. Though they're totally workable, I still find the friction settings a bit goofy ;) Perhaps settings similar to Friction II. I'd say, roughly, Viscosity 35-40, Dynamic 40-45, Static 50. We'd also end up with things more transferable to in-game, though the initial maxers would need retweaking for those settings.

850 does seem like a bit of a high bar here, given that Stereocrawlers are in an early stage of development, so to speak. In a sense, 200 is actually not bad as an Objective for the first challenge. It's sort of like Scarce Conditions I: can you get this going? 850 here is a gigantic jump: you'll have to be able to get 900+ on the first substrate and then add Nitrocytes to your genome. The two of us only hit 900 in the past two days, with a lot of editing and optimizing. What does a genome that gets, say, 600 on the first substrate get here?

But, it all depends on what sort of challenge you want here -- that is, maybe you want it to be a gigantic jump from being able to get a Stereocrawler or Nitro-Stereocrawler going. ;)

I still can't believe this was my idea, seriously (imagine I'm screaming)

DAMN MY HELLISH LACK OF KNOWLEDGE ABOUT THE FREAKING NUTRIENT PRIORITIES!
IF IT WASN'T FOR YOU I COULD BE THE FIRST ON MAKE THIS

this time I'm sure I'm not overreacting, if it wasn't because of how hard to understand are those nutrient priorities for me I could made the first functional stereocrawler
but I guess I wouldn't do it as well as you anyway :?

I think you're over-reacting ;) Concept credit goes to you. And no one's handing out awards for firsts here ;)

Alright guys, I guess I did overshoot a little ;) Have updated the objectives.

Also I've never said 850 was the goal. It's what my crawler achieved ;)

And bwisialo is right, Candy. Without your initial idea we wouldn't have this whole development on smart crawlers now.

thank you so much guys, you're amazing, good thing I'm not from the states, once I talked to one and it was like fuck fuck fuck fuck so boring
also the initial idea was too much different, because, the myocytes didn't last long, and reproduction wasn't that efficient, Btw

Does static friction helps crawlers?

I'm from the states ;)

Static friction helps enable a good lift-extend-plant-contract cycle for crawlers.
