Predator and Prey - Equilibrium

Post by bwisialo » Sat May 14, 2016 10:19 am

Description: It shouldn’t be difficult to get your predator off the ground -- there's plenty of debris for one thing. And it shouldn't be much more difficult to catch the smart prey. The difficult part -- hopefully -- is to restrain your predator from devouring so many prey that it can no longer survive.

Objective (Very Difficult): Create a predator that survives for 2000 hr.

Rules: All of your cells must be red -- the color detected by the smart prey. You can't have predators that reproduce and then go sterile. ;)

Cells: All except Phagocytes, Glueocytes, Virocytes, and Secrocytes. 1 cell inserted.

I decided against setting the prey's Stereocyte to avoid all colors. When the prey avoid one another, their distribution becomes more uniform across the plate, and it changes the population's behavior in repopulating the plate and other ways. I wanted a more uneven distribution, and I'm much more familiar working with the behaviors that result from only avoiding the predator's color.

With no restriction on inserted cells I can just insert a new (very inefficient) predator before the last one dies

Yep, not quite that easy. Tried with a rather fast predator, hoping it would burn too much energy. Got to 1k h, then it was over. Second try's running ;)

Reduced the swim force to slightly higher than the one of the prey with maximum signal strength of the Stereocyte, works nicely :) Got a little close at one point with only 2 predators left, but that was it.

Too easy?

I need to add a minimum number of "Your cells" that needs to be maintained. But we don't have that sort of counter.

Even with a minimum cell count requirement, there may be too many "cheats."

Well, once you have a smart predator it's only a little adjustment to make it not too efficient I think.

I'm testing right now with a setting even closer to the swim force of the prey. Looks good so far. But ultimately what you could do is make a predator that gets sterile and non smart after it has reproduced. That way you can never overpopulate on predators and the sterile ones won't interfere with the one that can reproduce.

For more cell count the sterile ones then could even get the ability to drop Lipos. So yeah, there are ways to play around the requirements.
