This is my first time playing since a long time, so I'm sorry if this is something obvious that I'm missing.

EDIT: The moment I reopen the plate, they all shrink and die. Weird.

It is a very old bug.
It seems that something related to the cells limit and virocyte. I remember that someone has gave a theory to explain this bug. I forget the details and didn't confirm it.
That's all I can say.
