Digestion III

Difficulty: Superhuman AI

Progress: Optional challenge

Description: This challenge is similar to Digestion, but here food is more scarce

Win Conditions: 470 user cells with 1 inserted

General Strategy: Make a smart swimmer that can use lipase to eat coated food

Someone has tips for this challenge, but it's missing so I can complete all
Several cells form a tissue,
Several tissues form an organ,
Several organs form a system,
Several systems form a living being,
but none of these alone form anything

You can start with a smart swimmer design and add Lipase to it. Then you can go from there

There are some really good tips for solving Digestion 3 in this comment on the beta testing forum: viewtopic.php?f=17&p=27923#p27693

I had the best success with organisms having 2 phagocytes to catch more digested food with less circling. Food bits are so large, it is almost hard to "swallow" them in a single pass, while still allowing undigested bits to pass through. Alternately, some way of funneling the food bits into a "mouth" that can digest and eat all of each large food piece works well. Food is quite plentiful, and salinity is high, so large many-celled organisms are possible.

I have solved it with organisms having 6, 7, and 8 cells. I tried some 5-cell versions with no success; the 470-cell goal just seems easier for me if each organism is larger. Larger organisms make it a little easier to solve without extensive fine tuning of swim speed (or requiring you to turn off "snap" values, which I like to avoid).

Keratin is not strictly necessary, with careful spacing (adhesin length) and cell size (nutrient priority). My most streamlined design for this challenge uses no keratin cells at all.

Good luck!

Yeah, I've solved it with 5 cells and snap values :-)

Side note: being able to solve with snap values on is actually one of my requirements when designing a challenge.

I've also solved it with only a 5-celled organism. It's Stereocyte was a little bit offset to compensate for its accuracy. Sure, the overall design is ruined by the Stereocyte's angle but trading it for the challenge's victory was totally worth it.

Mine is all symmetrical. It barely makes the 470 :-)

For some reason I had never tried what might have been the most obvious design, a 5-cell myo-swimmer with secrocyte on the front. With design plus evolution, I got it to just barely reach 470 cells in the challenge. But with a little more design tweaking it can now reach almost 700 :D

thanks to all who helped me, now I have managed to complete all the challenges.
I completed with an organism with 8 cells + the egg
Several cells form a tissue,
Several tissues form an organ,
Several organs form a system,
Several systems form a living being,
but none of these alone form anything
