Cannibal

Easy enough one for you guys here.

Undergad in my opinion

No need for a substrate, literally just click new plate in the experiment tab and you've got it right. All cell types allowed, and this can be solved with very early game cell types, it will just require a lot of optimization that way.

Time limit 100hrs

The goal is simple. Within the time limit, get to 450 cells, and then back down to 0. Nothing can be alive at the end, and you don't have to maintain population for any amount of time, just get to 450, down to 0. You may have done this by accident before

Easy, right?

Please, post solutions! I expect there's a lot of ways to do this I didn't think of.

Edit: max inserted cells is one

Guess I'll just insert 450 Photocytes since the default substrate has no light :P

I tried a simple phagocyte/devorocyte cycle that couldn't make it, but with two phagocyte cycles and one devorocyte, plus some split pattern optimization, it works quite nicely:

M1 phagocyte to M2 + M2
M2 phagocyte to M3 + M3
M3 devorocyte to M1 + M1

Substrate starting with 1 cell: https://www.dropbox.com/s/kg3lcdjuvugfd ... trate?dl=0

Fun challenge! This was the quick and easy solution, so I'll have to try some non-obvious ones.

AMAZING!!!! THIS SUBSTRATE USED TO CONTAIN RICH ECOSYSTEM AND NOW ITS DYING!
Scientists expects the ecosystem to fully extinct under 100 h

Ok just kidding sorry for the scam-clickbait title

The problem with the challenge is It's easy to finish this challenge without doing something "cannibal"

Hah! You got me. I made an edit so only one inserted cell is allowed, any ideas?

Apparently my phone doesn't have the memory to load that but I assume you did what alast was saying and just added 450 lol. I made an edit realizing I forgot to mention only one inserted. Wapcaplet has the right idea. Was that what you did?

I managed to do it under 30h with only Phagocytes. Took 11 modes, though ;)

Now I want to see if I can do it under 20h if I incorporate other types.

That's funny, I just came here to post my next solution, a 10-mode phagocyte-only version :-) It took a lot of tuning and still doesn't hit the 450-cell goal every time, but it looks pretty:

The first 9 modes (starting at the red end of the spectrum) generate themselves plus the next mode (or two of the next mode), while the 10th mode (purple) never splits.

I love it! That is a really pretty one. The reason I like this as a challenge is the reality of the situation is there are so many ways to do it, it kinda forces you to get creative. I probably should have called it 'burst' or something though as a cannibal organism is just how I did it the first time around.

I made it under 20h with Phagocytes only by bumping it up to 16 modes. That allowee me to make the final stage die off more quickly :-)
