Tutorial: Downloading and Opening cell lab files.

Post by RedShift » Fri Jan 31, 2020 3:02 am

[I think it would be a good thing to make this a tutorial, since I'm not the only person who experience the same problem when downloading .genome and .substrate files in Dropbox.]

Downloading Cell lab files:
Dropbox:
Follow this tutorial if you have experienced a problem on downloading cell lab files or any files from Dropbox. The problem may appears depending on the type of browser you are using.

– Let's use the link of trilobites subtrate by Alast as an example,
https://www.dropbox.com/s/yh2wt2wnsu7dl ... trate?dl=0
[If you are using a browser and clicked that link, the page would turn blank.]
– Go to the URL bar of the browser you are using and,
– Change the "www" to "dl" and add "usercontent" after the dropbox and the new link will look like this:
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/s/yh2wt2wnsu7dlxg/Trilobites.substrate?dl=0

https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/s/yh2 ... trate?dl=0
– The new link will automatically download the file from Dropbox.

Google Drive:
Here is another tutorial on making direct download link of your substrate and genome files from Google Drive.

– There are two ways to make a direct download link in Google Drive, (see the URL template below)
http://drive.google.com/uc?export=download&id= keyisplacedhere
http://drive.google.com/uc?id= keyisplacedhere &e=download

– We just need to replace the light blue colored text with the key from the URL.
Example:
I'm going to use Wilcz's Alien plant substrate.

Clickable link:https://drive.google.com/file/d/1TXRXjX ... llpge/view

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1TXRXjXlKXy4DOgLXdbpxw8SDTjtllpge /view
(The light blue colored text is the key)

– We will just place the key on the URL template and we can paste it to the URL bar.

http://drive.google.com/uc?export=download&id= 1TXRXjXlKXy4DOgLXdbpxw8SDTjtllpge
clickable link: http://drive.google.com/uc?export=downl ... SDTjtllpge

http://drive.google.com/uc?id= 1TXRXjXlKXy4DOgLXdbpxw8SDTjtllpge&e=download
clickable link:http://drive.google.com/uc?id=1TXRXjXlK ... e=download

– Paste the link to the URL bar and the file will be downloaded automatically.

Note: If you encountered the problem to the file extension that change from .substrate or .genome to .eml, all you have to do is to replace it to it's corresponding file extension. (.genome) for genome file and (.substrate) for substrate file.

Opening Cell lab files:
After downloading the genome and substrate files, your phone file browser/explorer won't automatically recognize those files, so it can't be opened. You will need another file browser/explorer(like Total Commander, ZArchiever, etc...) to open that.

Problems upon reading the cell lab files.

Post by RedShift » Fri Jan 31, 2020 12:16 pm

Problem: The File Explorer won't read the substrate/genome file as substrate/genome file.
Reason: This problem happens when a substrate/genome file has an extra dot(.) to its file name.

Example:
Swimmers ver.2.substrate

(The file explorer won't read it as a substrate file because of the extra dot(.) placed before the (.substrate).)

Solution: Rename the file and replace the extra dot(.) to any characters like dash(_) or hyphen(-).

Example:
Swimmers ver_2.substrate

Tip: When naming your substrate/genome file, avoid using dot(.) to prevent this problem to occur again.

Thank you so much.
I don't need to spend so much time on helping others.
