Spontaneous synchronisation of "firefly" signals

Dear cell labers

Inspired by Veritasiums video about spontaneous synchronisation I set out to make a flashing organism that automatically flashes at the same rate.
The bottom video is mine the upper video is not, obviously...


It depends on these simple rules
I made an organism that changes to green when it sees red en vice verse.
The organism does not only look to it's own colour but also that of nearby cells.
The colour change happens with a stemocyte as is the common way in this community.
The cells spend more time in the green part of the cycle because of the way the stemocytes are set.
Because all signals influence each other after a while the flashing happens in phase in a population with a high enough density.

I found that in my model it only happens when there are no new-born organisms as they destabilize the rate of flashing, so the population is capped.
I don't know if this has been done before,
I think it probably has been as it is a very simple mechanism.

The mechanism doesn't have to be on a smart swimmer but heck why not!



ps. I am aware of all the horrible spelling mistakes in my video, and I'm very sorry but also I don't really care. :lol:
