Queen needs Drones
Re: Queen needs Drones
Tried a fairly obvious alternate strategy and got 57.
Another version of this challenge could be to keep the queen cells alive for x hr.

Re: Queen needs Drones
Going back to Objectives, I'd say that when the basic objective can be doubled, tripled, etc. by a strong solution, then the minimum bar is in a good place for a standard challenge, rather than a hard core expert challenge.

After testing, 20 seems decent as an Objective on the friendly substrate.

Re: Queen needs Drones
@wapcaplet. Have you tried seeking red without avoiding green? If hatched in a decent direction, they'll have a good chance of getting into the open. If you design something that can hatch them pointing toward the center, well, the numbers will skyrocket.

Re: Queen needs Drones
That works much better, thanks! With this and a couple other optimizations, I got to 30 on the harder substrate, 50 on the easy one. Mine uses one green-eater that sends out red-seekers. The green-eater dies long before all green is eaten, so making it reproduce will certainly help.bwisialo wrote:Have you tried seeking red without avoiding green?
Re: Queen needs Drones
Yeah, my "green eater" is actually just a sedentary parasite that produces drones and also produces additional parasites by shooting them across the substrate. It is very far from optimized, lots of wasted eggs; drones lost along the wall; drones could probably delivery a lot more mass, etc.. So, it should be possible to get pretty high numbers: if you really got a good strategy and design optimized, 100-150
wouldn't shock me.

Re: Queen needs Drones
Made some changes: 92
Still wouldn't say it's an ideal solution. There's still plenty of growth not far out of reach there, depending on how much you want to work at it. Not really sure what the upper limit might be if you really maximize transferring available energy to the queen cells.
This species can also keep the queen cells alive indefinitely.

Re: Queen needs Drones
I've made it to 100+
But my solution has a flaw to it. As soon as one drone goes in the wrong direction and stays there it disrupts the cycle and can even clean the plate entirely in the end. I tried to stop that but didn't succeed yet. Bwisialos approach seems the more promising one for sustained energy delivery to make far higher numbers.
And yeah, at that point I'm struggling with the count, too

Perfection hasnt reached me yet, but its trying hard!
Re: Queen needs Drones
Indefinite Queen life is fantastic
I was shooting for that, too, but javen't succeeded yet for above reasons.
